HISTORY
The Boston Family has been rich in business and musical talent since the early 1900's. George and Francis Boston moved to Vivian, WV during the coal mining era, when George ran a successful produce business. Moving to Winston Salem, NC in the early 50's, George perfected his skills as a master craftsman and furniture maker and built the highly successful Boston's Furniture Co. A Godly and wise man, he served and loved his church deeply and served as a deacon. George and Francis loved to entertain especially at Thanksgiving when George would play the piano.

Robert and Julia Deviney began their union in their early teens in Reidsville, NC. After serving in the U.S. Army, Robert returned to Reidsville and the American Tobacco Co. where he worked until he retired. During this period he and Julia opened Deviney's Grocery. Julia worked at Annie Penn Hospital and was a pillar in her community. Affectionately known as Ma Viney she was the matriarch of our family. A Godly couple Robert served as President of the usher board and Julia sang on the senior choir. They also loved to entertain often entertaining celebrities, athletes, and ministers where Julia and their young daughters Melvine would perform on the piano.

Clarence Boston and Melvine Deviney Boston began their union in the early 1950's. Melvine was a student at Winston Salem Teachers Colleges and Clarence was employed at Western Electric. Melvine, a classical trained pianist, was easily sparked by the crooning sound of the Sensational Apollo’s which included Clarence , his uncle and cousins. The Apollo’s gained national attention after recording their first single in New York City. Clarence and Melvine also opened a convenience store in Winston Salem and Melvine gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Michael Anthony Boston Sr.

Melvine perused her musical talents as the choir director and organist of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed the many years of service she gave as an educator. Clarence continued his entrepreneurial spirit often investing in real estate in New York, Florida, and North Carolina. In 1988 Clarence opened a women’s fashion Boutique and today likes to dabble in the stock market as well as serving as chairman of the board for Boston’s House of Jazz.
